Welcome!
Thank you for checking us out! We want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Below you will find things to expect when you visit us. We look forward to seeing and getting to know you!
What is your service like?
A typical Sunday morning gathering will last about 60 minutes. We recommend coming a few minutes early to check-in your kids, find a seat, and fellowship. If you arrive early you can enjoy the art on display in the Langhinrichs Gallery.
We have assistive listening devices available in the foyer; please bring your own headphones or earbuds, though some may be available. The system uses a smart phone app (iPhone and Android) or dedicated receiver for those unable to use the app.
What should I wear?
Just as our beliefs are diverse, so is our clothing. Members’ wear ranges from jeans to dresses and jackets but is generally casual and comfortable. There is no dress-code, so you will see a variety of clothing from business casual to normal casual. Our focus is on the joy of fellowship and worshipping together.
So, everyone is welcome?
Yes. One of our central beliefs is respect for everyone. Whether brown, red, black, white, gay, straight, Christian, atheist, old or young … it does not matter. It can be difficult for people to fit in if they are certain that their way is the only way and they demand that others follow suit.
What makes Unitarian Universalists (UUs) different?
Our openness to different ideas and questions. We do not claim to have answers to life’s mysteries. Instead, a UU’s journey is discovering life’s meaning for oneself. We help each other find our own paths. You will find a diversity of beliefs within UUCFW and as a result be challenged to think differently about our world.
What is the religious background of your members?
As can be expected in a UU congregation, our members and friends have a diverse range of experiences with organized religion. Some come from traditional Christian backgrounds, some have embraced Eastern religions, some celebrate Earth-centered customs, and some don’t believe in God.
At UUCFW you are likely to find someone who shares your background and spiritual interests.
Is childcare offered during Sunday service?
We currently provide classes for elementary and middle school-age children twice a month; the first and third Sundays. High School classes also meet depending on attendance. There is usually a nursery care worker here on those days. Please use this link for more details.
What about my kids?
Children are released to Family Faith Formation where it says Children's Recessional in the Order of Service. Classrooms and nursery are located to the left of foyer. You will need to pick up your children from their classrooms following the end of service.
Family Sunday occurs on the 2nd, 4rd and 5th Sunday of the month. During this time, our service looks a little different than normal as families will sit through the service together. Nursery is still available.
Should I bring my own coffee?
We have coffee and snacks offered after service in the Gallery and Social Hall. We appreciate not bringing food or drinks into the sanctuary.
What do you mean by Welcoming Congregation?
Our congregation accepts and celebrates people from diverse sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions. We welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community to fully participate in congregational life. Members of our congregation have advocated for marriage equality.
We have been a Welcoming Congregation since June 1997. Read more about UU Welcoming Congregations here.
How do I get connected once I'm there?
Though we try to not miss any visitors, if you did not receive a Visitor's Packet, they are available in the foyer. Please complete the Newcomer Connection Card using the QR code or CardURL.uucfw.org. Please ask a greeter if you need help. Our greeters can also give you a Newcomer packet.
We invite you to stay after service to meet new people and fellowship with one another!
